I learned a lot about small business as a Small Business Manager for one of the major banks in the 1990’s. Back then businesses were grappling with a recession and I watched good people who worked really hard to build their business loose it all because bad advice (sometimes from accountants) and poor cash flow management practices. The businesses that did survive were stronger and their owners better decision makers. Because banks focused their analysis of a businesses on longevity to pay back a loan I developed invaluable knowledge of what makes a stable or vulnerable business. I had a very direct experience of the pressures of running a business when in 2002 I created a business startup for a major corporation.
In 2004 I started my first consulting business helping some of the biggest companies in Australia and Globally in a wide variety of industries to improve their strategies, leadership and sales strategies and skills. My study in behavioral science help me work with people to overcome the barriers they put in front themselves with unhelpful thoughts and doubts as they strived to achieve success every day.
As much as enjoyed helping big business succeed, my thoughts regularly drifted back to my experiences with small businesses all those years ago. Then my brother-in-law and his father came to me looking for advice on where they could go to get help for some of the challenges they were experiencing. The list of challenges was long. While suggesting business coaching came to mind. The more I spoke to them the more I discovered that a business coach wouldn’t be enough. They need regularly help with their people and culture, they needed to build their sales skills and recruit their first sales person for the first time, develop a strategy for a engineering business faced with the pressure from overseas companies they couldn’t compete with on price, and arguments about succession planning needed to be resolved. AND their biggest challenge was they didn’t have the time to do any of it because they were so business trying to pay the bills and keep their staff employed. It was at that point that SME Perform started.
I knew that they wouldn’t be alone and no where could I find a organization that could provide these services to a small business at an affordable price. Crazy right! Small businesses are the biggest employer in the country, yet can’t access the holistic services that bigger businesses rely on to succeed. Now you can!

We want to offer value for money and sometimes what a business wants to achieve can't be resolved in an hour or hour and half. If you are looking for help in a specific area which you think may need only a few sessions, then let's talk. We are very flexible in how we help our clients.

We may not have been employed in your industry but our team has worked across many industries, engineering, manufacturing, retail, food distribution, banking and finance, insurance, photographic production, catering equipment and professional services. Since we are not trying to replace your expertise with ours we usually find to partner effectively with all out clients.
